We all need cutie eye masks

I helped put together a new show in Tokyo at Lamp called (rough translation) "How to Enjoy the Five Minutes Before You Fall Asleep" by Chie Fukao. There are a few things she has been obsessed by over the years and sleep/bed is one of them. We are having workshops for participants to make these kitty eye masks with the artist. Wish I could teleport to Tokyo just for that afternoon.

This is a photo my friend and artist Julian Gatto sent me with a note "Merry New Decade". I thought it was pretty and wanted to share.

New Fall Clothes

My friends Tom & Barbara drove in from Michigan this week and brought me clothes and knits they made for my store. I don't have pictures of Tom's crazy knitted headbands, scarves, and hoods, but Barbara took some pictures of her clothes before she gave them to me so here are a few looks. I especially like the jumper dress that has the beetles on them. I wish I could afford to buy it! (It always is strange to me that I cannot afford most of what I buy for the store.) BUT I am very lucky because some of my friends/designers take pity on me and give me pieces for free every once in a while and Barbara gave me a different version of the hot pink bag featured above. I LOVE it.

Yard sculptures etc

Dave likes to decorate. He makes sculptures in the front yard and arranges things inside the house to look pretty. It's a good thing because if it were just me here I wouldn't bother and it wouldn't look as nice. Sometimes he wonders if people passing by in their cars are thinking "Damn hippies! Art freaks!" but I like to think that most people enjoy it.

The animals "enjoy" it all in their own way. Coleman pees on the outdoor sculptures sometimes, Ichigo uses one of them as a bridge sometimes, and Muncho takes pleasure in destroying the indoor arrangements every chance he gets.

"Turtle Club" photos

I sold vegan cookies and cupcakes at the NADA County Affair this past weekend. It was fun until a family coincidentally came through carrying two baby hatchling sliders that they had just bought in Chinatown that they actually didn't really want. (What is wrong with people!!) I was wracking my brain trying to figure out if I could handle fostering two more or where they could take them besides the city shelter which I was pretty sure would be too far away for it to be "convenient" enough for them. I called my friend who I thought might take them but there was no answer to the phone. They eventually disappeared and I am haunted by not knowing what will happen to the two cuties. I cried in the cab home and again when I got home. The awful thing is that my friend who I had tried to call would have taken them....... heartbreak.
